What's it worth? Des Moines Successful incubator

Hi Walt, These aren't the best pics (they are from the online advert I purchased the incubator from), so will take new ones if needed. :) This is a Des Moines antique incubatorDes Moines Successful incubatorDes Moines Successful incubator

Lisa asks:

Hi Walt,

This is a Des Moines “Successful” incubator, 1894(?), with darling logo
across the front. All working parts seem to be intact. (There are a couple
more pieces that just weren’t shown in the pictures.) Fairly large unit. I
believe it is approximately 33” across.
I paid $125 for it. It seems to be in extremely good condition, considering
its age.
If you need more info, let me know.
Thanks!
Lisa

AW says: Hi Lisa,

What I like about your incubator is that it’s in great shape and has the original lable which really defines this piece. You know the date, and yes it’s an original not a reproduction.

You bought it just under the low end of the retail price range from what I’ve seen these sell at which his anywhere from $150 -$275.  It’s very rare that these will ever be seen  priced much higher than $275.  The reason for this is because of it’s demand as a collectible.

HOWEVER, I think this should be a decorator’s dream because with only a good cleaning and minor, reversable modifications, it can be turned into an incredible kitchen counter/island.  You probably couldn’t find anything built like it today for under $1,500

How different people use antiques, often has more to do with the value of it than the collectible value. I would have a complimenting round block made to plug the center hole, turn the trays into drawers for flatware and use the cylinder on the right as a kitchen tool holder.

Retail price:  $150-$275

Wholesale price $75-$125

Quick sale: $50
