What's it worth? Appraisal of IPF German porcelain portrait dish
Jim asks: Here’ is my 3 online antique appraisal request. It’s for this porcelain plate with cobalt decorations. It has portraits of women on it.
AW says: I would actually refer to that as a bowl, or a dish as it’s deeper than a plate would be. I would refer to it as a cordial or a candy dish. This was made by the Ilmenau Porcelain Factory circa early 1900s.
Your item is hand painted. Although some of the paint is worn, it’s still in relatively good condition.
The cobablt blue and gold rich design means this was not the “working man’s” candy dish.
This factory was a direct competitor of the R.S. Prussia porcelain factory.
