Dave asks:
Dear AuctionWally,
I have a few questions about a roll top desk that I recently acquired. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I’ve enclosed a couple pictures. They are not of great quality but maybe give some clues as to the manufacturer or date of manufacture. I am curious to know what era this was made in and also any possible manufacturer’s.
I have scoured from top to bottom and have come up with no writing whatsoever. The only writing anywhere, is on the lock that locks the roll top part to the desk top itself. It requires a “Skeleton Key” and was produced by Eagle Lock Co. Other than that The desk says nothing. I have only found nails in the very top plate which may have been a repair. As for the rest it is all tongue and groove and fits together nicely.
It is all wood with veneer on most of it. A few spots are missing the veneer and I’m thinking of refinishing the entire thing but I want to make sure I’m not molesting a valuable piece of furniture. Any ideas of era? Manufacturer? Or approximate value? Thanks for any info you have.

First off, let me just say that you should use extra caution when re finishing any piece with veneer.
You didn’t give the dimensions of your desk, however, these style/types of Roll Tops, were usually made in the smaller size for children.
Your desk is circa 1910s-20s.
A likely manufacturer is Paris Furniture co. of Paris Maine, they made a lot of Children’s furniture in that era.
Value $75.00 to $150.00
